Old City (Icherisheher) Area to stay in Baku

Also called Icherisheher, this part of Baku is UNESCO-listed and is perfect if you are a history lover, couple, photographer or a slow paced explorer like me. I loved the vibes and charming streetscapes here. The Old City is home to beautiful mosques, caravanserais, and restored merchant houses. Here, spend your morning exploring places like the Shirvanshah’s Palace, the statues located in the monuments, admiring the old style houses, souvenir shops, carpet boutiques and local art galleries located in its quiet alleys.

If you love waking up to historic buildings’ views, there’s no better place than Baku’s Old City. As soon as you enter its ancient walls, the narrow cobblestone streets, sandstone houses, and majestic Maiden Tower transports you to another era.

As the sun sets in, the streets of Icherisheher light up, musicians play traditional tunes, and the aroma of local feasts wafts through the air. Enjoy dinner with a view at Qala Divari, Sehrli Təndir, or Art Garden Restaurant, where you can savor Azerbaijani delicacies like qutab, dolma, and plov in a cozy, heritage-style mansion. The people here are welcoming and always happy to share tales of the city.
