Okay, so first things first — if you’re planning a trip to Universal Studios Singapore (USS), you’ve made an excellent decision. This place is genuinely one of Southeast Asia’s best theme parks, and our family absolutely had a blast. Was it perfect? Mostly yes. Was it exactly as planned? Not really. But that’s what makes it a story worth sharing.
We booked our Universal Studios one day pass/ tickets through Klook.com which was super easy and saved us the hassle of buying at the gate. Every travel guide will tell you to arrive as early as 9 am. We got there around noon. Still had an amazing time, well, except the scorching sun. You can still pull off a great day at Universal Studios, if your morning is a little chaotic. This review of our one day at Universal Studios Singapore will help you understand the place better and hopefully help you enjoy your one day pass of Universal Studio Singapore to the fullest in only one day.
Where is Universal Studios Singapore?
Universal Studios Singapore is Southeast Asia’s first and only Universal Studios, inside the Resorts World Sentosa complex on Sentosa Island. The park has 7 themed zones and over 24 rides, shows and attractions — ranging from bone-rattling roller coasters to gentle carousels, live character meet-and-greets, 4D cinematic experiences, and more. There’s genuinely something for every age and every nerve level.
About 7 themed zones at Universal Studios Singapore
The park is organized into seven immersive worlds, each with distinct atmosphere, rides, dining and shopping.
Hollywood (Entry Zone) – The glamorous gateway to the park, lined with palm trees and art deco architecture. Perfect for photos, street performances, and character meet-and-greets. There’s no ride here, just the Hollywood city with theater, dance stages, cafes and shops.
New York – A recreation of iconic brownstone buildings and neon-lit diners. Features the Lights, Camera, Action! show produced by Steven Spielberg, simulating a Category 5 hurricane on a movie set.
Sci-Fi City (Thrill Zone) – A futuristic cityscape that is paradise for adrenaline lovers. Home to Transformers: The Ride and the legendary Battlestar Galactica dueling roller coasters — the world’s tallest dueling coasters.
Ancient Egypt – Journey back to the era of pharaohs with immersive desert décor and the fan-favourite Revenge of the Mummy indoor roller coaster. This place transports you from the normal zones to Egypt very quickly. The surroundings, the huge Egyptian statues you will see here are amazing.
The Lost World (Wet Zone) – Jurassic Park comes alive in this lush jungle zone. Features the thrilling Jurassic Park Rapids Adventure water ride and the family-friendly Canopy Flyer and Dino-Soarin’ rides. Here you will meet you favourite dino, do say hello.
Far Far Away – Step into the fairytale world of Shrek. Home to Shrek 4-D Adventure, Puss in Boots’ Giant Journey, the Enchanted Airways junior coaster, and the beautiful Far Far Away Castle. Here you will meet Shrek and Fiona, so keep on looking out. Also in the gift shop you will find Night Fury’s big statue and sometimes you can meet Hiccup and Astrid characters from How to train your dragon. In this area you also have nice restaurants right in front of the castle which is very convenient in case the meet and greet happens.
Minion Land (New addition) – The newest addition to the USS, opened on 14 February 2025! Inspired by the Despicable Me and Minions franchise, featuring Despicable Me Minion Mayhem, the world-exclusive Buggie Boogie carousel, themed dining and retail.
NOTE: You can start your USS journey from any side of the park. From Hollywood street when you reach a junction you can decide to go right or left. We chose to go left as we saw Minion Land’s board there.
Our first stop – Minion Land
Since we were with the kids, we didn’t want to make them wait too long. We spotted Minion Land on our left as we entered the Hollywood lane and went for it. Upon checking the Universal Studios app we found the ride Buggie Boogie had 5 mins of waiting. And we rushed to catch the ride. It’s a Finding Nemo-themed carousel that spins to Minion-remixed pop songs, and it was the perfect warm up to pump that Universal excitement. I loved it as I don’t remember when was the last time I sat on one of these. And I definitely enjoyed it.
Despicable Me Minion Mayhem Ride in the Universal Studios Singapore
Then we went to Despicable Me Minion Mayhem. Now, this one looks deceptively calm — it’s indoors, the seats don’t look scary, and there’s no loops or drops. But don’t let that fool you. The moving seats paired with the immersive 3D screen. It creates a sensation that genuinely fools your body into thinking you’re tumbling, rising and spinning.
The queue was around 20 minutes, but walking through Gru’s house and his lab as part of the pre-show was so well done that it barely felt like waiting. Gru himself appears on screen to brief you on his plan to turn you all into Minions for his use — it’s hilarious and sets the tone perfectly.
My son started feeling dizzy midway through Minion Mayhem — the falling scenes were getting to him. I quickly leaned over and told him: “Don’t look down when it drops — look around instead.” He listened, and within seconds he went from hating the ride to actually enjoying it. Parent tip unlocked! If your kid feels motion sick on simulator rides, train them to look sideways at the surrounding visuals rather than straight into the fall — it makes a world of difference.
Transformers the Ride — The Ultimate 3D Battle
I’m going to say it plainly: Transformers the Ride: The Ultimate 3D Battle was the best thing I did all day. Anyone who has been to Universal Studios says that they liked Mummy return in the Ancient Egypt section. I wanted to go for that but we couldn’t because of the kids. And the wait was too long. So we skipped a lot of rides because of the wait time and chose more kid- friendly stuff. Possibly one of the best theme park experiences I’ve ever had if I didn’t go on many other great rides like Star galactica and Jurassic park rides.
In Transformers the ride, you board a vehicle called EVAC and get thrown into the middle of an actual Autobots vs Decepticons battle. The 3D visuals are incredible, and the ride adds physical effects — heat, wind, water mist — on top of the motion simulation to make it feel shockingly real.
The wait was 30 to 40 minutes, which was starting to feel unbearable with a kid in tow. But the queue area is air-conditioned throughout, split across well-designed rooms that never feel cramped or stuffy — it’s like walking through a Sci-Fi installation, honestly. Much better than standing in an open line under the sun.
We lucked out with front row seats and it completely changed the experience. The 3D characters felt like they were talking directly to us. I genuinely felt like Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox — being hurled from one Transformer to the next, saved at the last second, over and over. I came off that ride grinning like an idiot. 100% do this one. Sit in the front if you can.
Far Far Away – Shrek 4-D Adventure — Better Than a Cinema
We almost skipped Shrek 4-D Adventure because we figured — how different is it from watching a 3D movie? Turns out, quite a bit different. The seats vibrate, water mists spray you at just the right moments, air puffs catch you off guard, and the original voice cast is back for the show. It’s very close to a 4DX cinema experience, but with more charm and story built around it. Definitely worth doing, especially if you have Shrek fans in the family (and who doesn’t?).
The Far Far Away zone itself is also just gorgeous to walk through — the castle backdrop makes for amazing photos, and that’s also where we had our Shrek & Fiona meet-and-greet.

Here’s something that genuinely surprised us — all the character meet-and-greets are included in your standard admission. No extra charge, no separate queues with premium fees. Just show up, use the app to find them, and go say hi.

Meeting Optimus Prime at Sci-Fi City was jaw-dropping — he is enormous in person and looks unbelievably real.
Meeting Blue from Jurassic Park was the kids’ absolute favourite. It was demonstrated very nicely. It looks very real.
And Shrek & Fiona at the castle? Pure fairytale magic. These moments were the highlight of our day and they cost nothing extra. Please don’t rush past them. Or if you have missed any meet and greet check the app there you can see some characters do meet and greet multiple times a day.
Download the USS App — Seriously, Do It Before You Go
The Universal Studios Singapore app is one of those things that sounds optional but genuinely makes your day so much smoother. It has a live park map that you can filter by meet-and-greet locations, cafes, restaurants, shops and shows. Most usefully, it shows live wait times for every ride — which means you can check from wherever you’re standing and decide whether to head somewhere else or join the queue. We used it constantly and it saved us a lot of time and guessing.

What to Bring — Our Essentials List
Umbrella — Singapore weather doesn’t give warnings. A compact fold-up umbrella is your best friend.
Sunscreen — There are plenty of outdoor stretches in the park and the midday sun is brutal. Reapply often.
Sunglasses, caps and sun hats — For you and the kids. It gets very hot during the day, especially in open zones like Sci-Fi City and Lost World.
Comfortable, breathable clothes and shoes — You’ll walk a lot. Don’t find out the hard way.
Raincoat or extra set of clothes — If you’re doing Jurassic Park Rapids Adventure in The Lost World, you will get soaked. Plan accordingly.
Reusable water bottle — Singapore’s humidity is no joke. Stay hydrated throughout the day.
Tips We Wish Someone Had Told Us
- First thing I would say: read the USS map properly. It is your guide to enjoy the Universal studios properly.
- Arrive early if you can — by 10 AM ideally. Popular rides hit 60+ minute waits by mid-afternoon. That said, we arrived at noon and still had a great time, so don’t let a late start ruin your plans.
- Weekdays are significantly less crowded than weekends. If you have flexibility, Monday to Thursday is the sweet spot.
- The Express Pass lets you skip queues on the biggest rides. Worth it on busy days, especially for Transformers, Revenge of the Mummy and Battlestar Galactica. We didn’t get the express pass and I don’t regret it.
- Pre-book tickets on Klook or the official RWS site. It’s cheaper, faster, and you skip the box-office queue entirely.
- The park is cashless — set up a digital wallet or bring a contactless card. You’ll need it for food, drinks and merchandise.
- For simulator rides that move a lot (like Minion Mayhem), kids who feel dizzy should look sideways at the surroundings rather than straight into the screen’s falling scenes. Genuinely helps.
- When you know you are tired and kids are cranky, look for indoor rides on the map. This will help you cover most of the things.
- Get a stroller for kids at the gate.
So — Is It Worth It?
There’s a lot of walking under the sun and hot weather so be prepared, at times it feels like punishment then enjoyment in the theme park. But we loved it. If I get a chance to go to Universal studios again, I will definitely go and this time I will check the map properly and go for the rides that have less wait time and plan accordingly. Without a question, Universal Studios Singapore is a fantastic day out for families, couples and solo thrill-seekers alike. We got there at noon, covered Minion Land, Transformers, Shrek’s world, multiple meet-and-greets, and were badly tired. If only the one day pass price was for 2 days entry I would have gone the next day to experience a few more rides over there.
The park is thoughtfully designed — The whole park is open, wide and not congested at all. There are shaded queues, excellent indoor air conditioning, a wide range of rides for all ages, and character experiences that feel genuinely magical. Some of the rides or some meet and greets are memorable for kids, especially Transformers and dinosaurus meet and greet. I am sure you will also take some lovely memories back from here.
