10 minutes of horror locked up at the Hotel washroom. Have you ever faced a place where you know that you might have to find an alternative to rescue yourself? Well, I am sure you have been there, in one way or another.

This is the tale of my life’s 10 minutes of horror locked up at a hotel washroom.

Let’s not take the name of this hotel or just name it ‘The great tranquilising Hotel’. I hope there’s no hotel by this name. And if you like it for your new project for building a Hotel, then just send me some share of profit. I am joking, it’s for free.

10 minutes of horror locked up at the Hotel washroom.

The introduction

I had a great time at this hotel. We loved the hospitality and the hotel in general. Of course, apart from this event.

After working for the hotel industry for many years, I understand how most hotel staff try to be of help or create terrific memorable experiences for guests.

The hotels are built with great architecture, beautifully designed restaurants and tranquil spas. All carry us to a different world. Away from city traffic, busy roads laid noise of people and that morning humming sound which does not generally exist in the night.

The Purpose

This incident in this incognito hotel spa gave me an anecdote to share with you all. An incident that? Made me laugh even when I was trapped and startled.

Chapter one – The Happy Times

The story starts with enjoying the hotel room, the swimming pool and the other luxurious facilities we had in the place.

My husband offers me to get some spa treatments. Out of being a good, money-saving wife at first, I said: “no, I am okay, I don’t think that’s a good idea. We are already paying so much for the stay and restaurants.”

This was not my first time playing the-good-wife-thing. There are many offers we get as a wife, which are sometimes not that interesting. But the offer for spa treatments is undeniable. Aaruni (my husband) knows the drama queen very well. In general, he would try to convince me to show his loving side, but this time he chose to be smart and said “okay fine I gave you an offer you didn’t take it. It’s your call”.

Well, what was next if I want it I take it. I took the offer and called the Spa to make an appointment.

Chapter Two -The Spa

As entering the Spa, I approached a curly hair girl, looked around 25 yrs old, wasn’t looking too concerned but anyways, she looked at me and may have said in her mind hey guest since you are here let me take care of you. We exchanged some forceful smile and spoke about my treatment briefly. She took me to the changing room, showed me my locker, gave the key, showed me the changing robe, disposable underwear and a towel. She also suggested I take some steam before going for my facial. The steam room was ten steps down the changing hall. Looked so secluded from the top.

Anyways looking around the changing room, I realise the private changing room is not private at all, at least not to me. It was open from the two opposite sides which had open doors. One side had lockers, so it was closed. The opposite side of the locker room was open to the view of hillside rocks, huge boulders and plantation. Precisely, it was pretty open for me to change there.

A washroom was there with an open door, a very inviting, secure place to change my clothes. While changing I was in my own rhythm, thinking about the facial, the massage, my skin problems and what my face really needed, why I took this facial and not the other, etc. etc. etc.

Finishing my thing with all the set expressions, I opened the door. It didn’t open. I tried moving the knobs around and left, and right, I decided to keep my calm and tried to open the door again twisting the knob on every possible side but no luck. The door lock was jammed. And I was stuck inside the washroom in my robe with no phone on me. The restroom had no phone. But now I feel they should. And I also suggest you take your phone everywhere you go. It is such a tremendous help.

Looking for my rescue options, I saw an open window in the washroom wide enough to fit me. Climbing to the window, which could land me on the unknown hill boulders leaving me no path to be found back to the resort. I thought before trying some stunts and making a fool out of me, let’s call for help. While shouting for help, movies like 127 hours, Escape room, Trapped(Hindi movie) and The maze runner kept evolving me.

Seeing the remote Spa at one end of the resort I started yelling and shouting even more, for help.

“Hello, hellos somebody there? I need help, I am stuck”. While calling for help, it struck me how Privacy converts scary. After calling for a few minutes and getting images of those movies in front of me, I was afraid for my baby and husband. Who didn’t know what I was going through?

It wasn’t like I would die, but I hated the ongoing event. 10 minutes of horror locked up at a hotel washroom.

Chapter Three – The Rescued Girl

“Hello, hellos somebody there? I need help, I am stuck”.

“Yes, yes I am here, I am here to help you.” What that’s a girl’s voice.

Sounded like God’s voice at the moment.

She tried to open the door but she couldn’t, she told me it’s locked. Open it from your side, I wanted to ask her to come to my side and open it. You think I am a fool blah blah blah! But I didn’t.

I know how to open the locked door from inside, but it’s jammed madam.

Being a friendly guest, I couldn’t show my anger. I just told her it’s stuck I can’t open. Do something as soon as you can. She told me to wait and sent a man with all the master keys. After trying a few keys, he got the right one and wooohooo I was out. Thank God I was out. They all apologised for the problem and asked if I am okay. I acted cool.

I was scared enough to not to continue my spa treatment, but I didn’t want to make it a big drama. This reminds me of my days working at the hotel. Being a staff, we were most careful to stop the complaints from happening. Make the upset guest happy. And back then, that didn’t make me feel how traumatic the guest could have experienced. But now as a guest, after this incident, I was really really stressed and thought I will die here, and no one will know.

Chapter Four – The Steam Room

Having faced one traumatic event, it was tough to distinguish the right or wrong or reality and imagination.

Among the two steam rooms, I chose a glass door steam room which didn’t have a lock inside or outside. Simply laying on the bench in the steam room, I didn’t check if steam was on. Tired from my travelling I nearly slept inside and woke up with a knock on the door. A male staff member informed me just switched on the steam.

In a few minutes, I heard a thunderous sound. I thought my tired brain made it up. As the sound grew louder, I looked around the room and located a small pipe erected from the wall on the lower corner. That was making that noise with some hot water proceeding out to the floor.

Seeing that reminded me that earlier in the day first, Baby Aanick fell, got a cut on his lips and was bleeding badly. This was the first time he got hurt so bad ever since he was born.

Second I got locked inside a washroom, and now I guess the hot water is going to push open, sprinkling the boiling water and burning me.

Anyways the therapist came to check on me asking how long you are gonna use it – out of fear, I said I am okay let’s go for the treatment. But she insisted on taking the steam for another 5 mins because it started pretty late and I didn’t give it much time to work on my skin.

I guessed when I came out to talk to her a fresh air made me clear my mind and calm me down. I agreed to take the steam for another 5 minutes, but that thought of terrified pipe bursting kept me looking at it the entire time. Alert to run to the other side the moment it gets burst.

This was complete bullshit, but a scared soul had its own reasons.

Final Chapter – Relaxation

The facial and massage treatments were excellent.

Made my mind and body so relaxed and helped me not overthink about the previous incidents in the day.

Thanks to the therapist, who was really good at her job. By the way, the same therapist was my rescuer from the washroom episode.

Anyways I totally recommend to you all please take your mobile phones inside the washroom anywhere you are going in.

Also, keep a check and make sure you have a few people around you anywhere you go. Who knows if they will become your rescuer too.

In case you are stuck, this goes with many things, after all, being alert and cautious is not a bad thing and better than facing 10 minutes of horror locked up at a hotel washroom.
